The recently-discontinued Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid SUV is being recalled to address an issue with the tray that holds its battery pack.
VW needs to fit a drain to the battery trays of just 825 2011 through 2015 models in order to ensure the trays drain water sufficiently.
If water collects in the tray, it could cause an electrical short in the high-voltage battery, which in turn could increase the risk of a fire.

To remedy the problem, Volkswagen dealers will, free of charge to the owner, install a fitted drain valve that allows water to drain properly.
The recall is expected to begin later this month, and VW will notify owners of the affected vehicles directly.
Affected Touareg Hybrid models were built between March 20, 2010, and April 11, 2015.

The combination of low gas prices and the age of the current Touareg platform likely weren’t going to help its sales going forward.

A new Touareg is expected soon, based on underpinnings from the recently-launched 2016 Audi Q7.
It’s unclear whether the Touareg Hybrid model will return, although it would help Volkswagen meet Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards.
2011 Volkswagen Touareg HybridFor most of its life, the Touareg Hybrid also lived in the shadow of the Touareg TDI diesel, this being before news of VW’s use of “defeat device” software to cheat on emissions tests broke.
The Touareg Hybrid was part of a group of low-volume hybrids put out by their manufacturers without much effort, that ultimately made little impact.
