Although we try very hard to put cars through a variety of tests on a variety of roads when we carry out our first drive reports, it’s not always possible to gauge what day-to-day life would really be like for real-life owners.
So when possible, we try to spend more than a few hours with a car to help you better gauge if it suits your lifestyle, usually with an extended weekend or week-long test-drive.
One such car we wanted to get to know better was the 2012 BMW ActiveHybrid 5, which we got a chance to drive earlier this year on a closed, private test track.
We’ve already given you our first drive report of this premium, luxury mid-size, full-hybrid sedan from BMW, but now we’re examining the $61,845 sedan a little deeper in a five-day long extended test-drive.

We’ll be doing everything from long, freeway trips to short, errand running in it, to see how it really matches up to its 37 mpg highway and 31 mpg official EPA combined rating.
But is there anything you’re particularly keen for us to find out?
Perhaps you’d like to know how its quad-zone air conditioning system works, or want to know how different its multitude of driving modes are?
Or maybe you just want to know how comfortable the seats are, how easy it is to pair a bluetooth telephone, or how well-designed the route guidance is?
