Got a 2013 or 2014 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid? It may be one of the nearly 7,300 examples subject to a powertrain control module recall.
Ford is recalling the vehicles to correct an issue that could see the cars roll away after being shifted out of park.
According to The Detroit News, affected cars may have a transmission sensor error that allows the vehicle to be shifted out of park without first depressing the brake pedal–failing to meet a necessary federal safety standard.
Due to a manufacturing error, these sensors fail to send a signal to the powertrain control module, which could assume the vehicle is in neutral and allow it to be shifted from park withough pressing the brake. Ford says this could cause “unintended vehicle movement due to an inadvertent shift out of park”, though no accidents or injuries have been reported.
The recall affects 7,100 vehicles in the United States and a further 170 in Canada, and covers vehicles built at the Hermosillo Assembly Plant from April 26, 2012 through September 24, 2013.
Owners of affected vehicles should expect an official notice from Ford soon.
