Recargo announced today that it has developed a version of its PlugShare charging-station locator app for the 2014 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive.
The company partnered with Mercedes parent Daimler to develop the app, which will be integrated into the car’s navigation system.
This vehicle-specific version of PlugShare will give B-Class drivers a way of finding charging stations that’s comparable to the apps and navigation services offered with other electric cars.

The BMW i3, for example, can be paired with the ChargeNow app for locating stations, as part of BMW’s partnership with the ChargePoint network.
PlugShare lists stations on multiple networks, but Mercedes hasn’t made arrangements with any to offer a streamlined pay service, like BMW’s ChargeNow and Nissan’s EZ Charge cards.
2014 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive – First Drive, May 2014Meanwhile, Recargo sees the collaboration with Mercedes as an opportunity to expand the reach of PlugShare by putting it in dashboards, as well as on smartphone and computer screens.
The PlugShare feature is currently available on the B-Class Electric Drive, which went on sale in the U.S. over the summer.
So far though, the plug-in hatchback has only been available in California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Virginia.

These are all states that have followed California’s lead in adopting stricter emissions standards. Mercedes plans to offer the B-Class in the rest of the country in the first half of 2015.
For now, though, that means the electric car with the three-pointed star badge is a decidedly low-volume commodity.
In its first two months on sales, the B-Class Electric Drive saw a total of 92 deliveries.
