We’re not sure about you, but doing that last-minute holiday gift shopping can be a real pain, especially if you’re trying to buy something specific like an electric car charging station.
But just like so many other gifts, books, gadgets and household items, the humble electric car charging station can now be purchased by visiting the online retail giant Amazon.com, saving you from the hoardes of last-minute shoppers at your local shopping mall.
Thanks to a deal between General Electric and Amazon.com, the Level 2 GE WattStation can be purchased online in the same way that you would buy any other Amazon product.
And you can even get it in time for the holidays…if you’re quick.
Unlike some electric car charging stations on the market today, the GE WattStation offers two installation options. As with other charging stations, it can be permanently wired to a suitable dedicated 240-volt power supply by a professional electrician.
Alternatively, it can be installed by a DIY enthusiast provided a suitable 240-volt NEMA 6-50 outlet already exists, dramatically reducing the cost of installing a level 2 charging station.

It’s that ease of use — combined with lucrative distribution deals between General Electric and companies like hardware superstore Lowe’s and solar power specialist REC Solar – which is making the GE WattStation one of the more favored domestic electric car charging solutions.
Priced at $1,099 on Amazon.com, the GE WattStation isn’t the cheapest electric car charging station we’ve seen so far, but if you’re looking for a simple and painless way to buy a charging station for yourself or a loved one with an electric car, this could be it.
While we’re pleased to see electric car charging stations become more mainstream, we’d like to remind readers that you should always get an electrician to check your home wiring can safely provide the power the charging station needs without starting a fire, especially if you live in an older-property with unknown electrics.
