Electric-Car Fast Chargers And Gas Stations: A Match Made In IndianaElectric-Car Fast Chargers And Gas Stations: A Match Made In Indiana

Thanks to the flexibility of electrical supply infrastructure, electric-car charging stations can be placed virtually anywhere.
They’ve already cropped up in places like shopping-mall parking lots, hotels, and even national parks.
But where are drivers used to stopping regularly?
DON’T MISS: Electric-Car Charging Station At Gas Station In Tar-Sands Land (Nov 2014)
In terms of sheer irony, it’s hard to beat an electric-car charging station that’s installed at a gas station.
Ricker’s Oil–a service-station chain operating in the Hoosier State–has installed nine DC fast-charging stations at various locations, according to CSPnet (via Charged EVs).
The stations were installed in partnership with Nissan and the Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition, and are part of the Greenlots charging network.

Because of the connection with Nissan, the stations will presumably use the CHAdeMO standard that’s compatible with the Leaf.
They will be included in Nissan’s “No Charge to Charge” program, which offers free two years of fast charging to Leaf buyers.
Indiana represents the 14th major U.S. market for the program since it began last year. Nissan eventually hopes to expand it to 25 markets.
CHECK OUT: Indianapolis Electric-Car Sharing: We Drive BlueIndy’s BlueCar (May 2014)
Ricker’s sees itself as aligning with Indianapolis mayor Greg Ballard, an aggressive promoter of electric cars.
He worked closely with the French company Bolloré to bring its Autolib electric-car sharing serve to the Indiana capital.
The BlueIndy service launched last year, with the same BlueCar used in the Parisian Autolib system and an ultimate goal of 200 locations throughout the city.

Ballard also set the goal of converting the entire municipal fleet to “post-oil technology” by 2025.
As a first step toward that goal, Indianapolis will replace 425 city vehicles with electric cars and plug-in hybrids by 2016.
There’s clearly no shortage of innovative electric-car policy in Indiana, but the concept of charging stations at gas stations isn’t limited to that state.
Gate Petroleum reportedly installed a Nissan-backed fast-charging station at a location in Jackonsville, Florida.
Meanwhile, a gas-station owner in Effingham, Illinois, claims to be preparing for the installation of six Tesla Supercharger units.
And as we’ve previously reported, Petro-Canada is operating a charging station at a location deep in Alberta tar-sands country.
