The Bavarian Porsche tuners at RUF have a unique model on display at the Geneva Motor Show. The eRUF Greenster EV is based (in appearance anyway) on the Porsche 997, and RUF’s own R and RT-roadster models with one giant exception. The Greenster uses an all-electric powertrain. This is no ordinary EV though. The Greenster has a single electric motor designed by Siemens capable of 362-horsepower and 695 lb-ft of torque. Gasp. It goes 0-60 miles per hour in 5 seconds. Double gasp.
RUF claims that via a bi-directional network connection, the Greenster can be charged in under an hour, using a 400-volt outlet. Finding the outlet may be your biggest problem with the car.
Lest you question RUF’s commitment to the green movement, the car is drenched in deep green paint. Otherwise, the classic Porsche design-cues dominate the look with some nods to the vintage Targas in the cockpit. RUF expects to have a production Greenster available for 2010 and if it crosses the pond, it will likely be distributed from their Dallas-based, “RUF Auto Centre. Here’s hoping it makes the trip.
