Electric vehicle sales are holding steady in Europe; the latest sales data shows popular battery electric vehicles remain popular.
Plug-in hybrids continue to hold their own as well, according to data aggregated from numerous individual national markets.
The Renault Zoe, in particular, continues to sell quite well.

Through the month of May, the Zoe has sold 10,682 units, up from 7,704 units from the same time last year.
The Zoe holds a 13.1 percent market share, according to data from the European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO).
Coming in at second place is the Nissan Leaf, now seven years old, which sold 8,004 units through May.

Its sales are down compared to the same time last year when it sold 8,358 in 2016.
The BMW i3 rounds out the top three battery electric vehicles with 5,142 units sold.
Tesla’s Model S and Model X make up the top five electric vehicles in the European market with 4,276 units of Model S and 3,386 units of Model X.

It’s the Hyundai Ioniq Electric that has made waves recently in Europe.
Since its introduction, the Ioniq Electric has sold 1,602 units.
The figure pales in comparison to the Renault Zoe, but it does handily outdo several long-time second-tier entries: the Volkswagen e-Golf (1,559), Kia Soul EV(1,540), Mercedes B250e (1,143), and the Volkswagen e-Up! (919).

Plug-in hybrids
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV tops the list of best-selling plug-in hybrids, though, its market share slipped in favor of another vehicle.
The Outlander PHEV sold 6,174 units through April, but its market share fell to 7.6 percent.
Compared to last year, it held over 10 percent of the market for PHEVs.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen Passat GTE sales jumped to 4,252 units sold.
At the same time last year, the Passat GTE sold just 2,442 units.
Moving down the list, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e (3,503), BMW 330e (3,442), and BMW 225xe Active Tourer (3,084) round out the top five PHEVs.
2017 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
Volvo gained some ground and placed at number six with the XC90 PHEV.
It sold 2,931 units of the SUV through May.
Rounding out the top 10 PHEVs are the Mercedes-Benz C350e (2,821), Audi A3 e-Tron (2,287), BMW X5 40e (2,051), and finally the BMW i3 Rex (1,884).
Other various PHEVs made up 10.7 percent of the market and sold 8,662 unit total.
