Inizio EVS
Last November we reported that Sam’s Club sold a non-existent sports car called the Liv Inizio by Hybrid Technologies. As it turns out, the start-up EV company (now calling itself EV Innovations) is planning to attend the New York Auto Show with two electric sports cars in tow.
The first debut will be the Inizio EVS, a Tesla Roadster competitor with a top speed of 170 mph and a 0 to 60 time of 4 seconds. The Inizio uses an AC induction motor mounted mid-cabin with a five speed transmission. Lithium-ion batteries store enough power to keep the Inizio rolling for 200 miles per charge. Recharging will take eight hours with a standard household outlet. If you’re excited by this, temper it, because unless you have $139,000 to buy it, you’ll likely never drive one.
For you, EV Innovations offers the Wave. The Wave is a “sporty” commuter car with a top speed of 80 mph and a range of 170 miles per charge. (Note: “sporty” and “sports” have completely different meanings in the car world. One means Mitsubishi Eclipse and the other means Nissan 370Z.) At a base price of only $34,900, the Wave is much more attainable, but we’ll wait till the New York show to pass judgment. EV Innovations offers few details on either model although they say deliveries are planned for 2010. Stay tuned.
