Luxury automaker Lexus has hit a major milestone in hybrid sales: Half a million units.
Since the company’s first hybrid, the Lexus RX 400h hit the roads in 2005, over 506,000 have followed.
And it’s the RX hybrid which is still the best-selling line, making up over half of Lexus’s total hybrid sales. 259,000 RX 400h and RX 450h models have rolled off the production line in the last seven years.
The RX 450h gets EPA combined mileage of 30 mpg, the same in city driving, and 28 mpg highway, in front-wheel drive format.
Next up is the firm’s smallest model, the Prius-based CT 200h.
At 122,000 cars sold worldwide, the CT has been a great success for Lexus, despite it arriving as recently as 2010. The CT 200h, using the 1.8-liter engine found in the Prius, is currently the automaker’s most efficient model, with combined economy of 42 mpg. It’ll also achieve 43 mpg in city driving and 40 mpg highway.
The HS 250h, the first dedicated hybrid model in the Lexus range, sold 56,000 units since 2009.
Today, hybrids account for a quarter of Lexus sales globally, and with more on the way–such as hybrid versions of the 2014 Lexus IS a coupe based on the same model, and a small hybrid crossover, that number can be expected to rise further.
