Honda Confirms CR-Z GT300 Hybrid Race Car, To Rival PriusHonda Confirms CR-Z GT300 Hybrid Race Car, To Rival Prius
Hybrids are set to go head-to-head on Japan’s race tracks this year, as Honda has finally confirmed it’s set to enter a CR-Z in the GT300 class of Japan’s SuperGT series.
Toyota announced its Prius GT300 challenger several months ago, before it was revealed at the 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon last month.
Like the Prius, Honda’s hybrid race car bears only passing resemblance to its road-going counterpart.
Though only a rendering at this stage, you can expect the CR-Z to be significantly wider, lower and longer than the road-going hatchback, to accommodate wider arches and large aerodynamic devices.
Honda has announced (via Jonisbal) that the car will be run by Team Mugen, Honda’s official tuning arm, already responsible for a hot version of the road-going 2012 Honda CR-Z.
The CR-Z will be equipped with a racing hybrid system, just like the Prius. To meet GT300 regulations, both cars will have around 300 horsepower.
We’ll bring you more news on the CR-Z GT300 as and when it appears. We’re certainly looking forward to seeing these two high-profile hybrids battling it out on the track.
