Lexus LS 600h on duty in Monaco
No, we’re not talking about the Prince William and Kate Middleton royal wedding that’s taking place this week. We’re talking about that other royal wedding, the one between Monaco’s Prince Albert II and his bride-to-be Charlene Wittstock scheduled for July 2 of this year.
Confirming his commitment for more environmentally friendly solutions, the Prince has decided to use a new 2011 Lexus LS 600h luxury hybrid sedan to parade around in at his wedding. In fact, Lexus has been awarded a royal warrant as Official Supplier to the Prince and his family.
The move is by no means strange, as the Prince is known for taking a keen interest in encouraging environmental protection and sustainable development around the world, having even established the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in 2006.
His foundation supports more than 150 projects monitoring environmental evolution, protecting species endangered by climate change and providing assistance in water management for developing regions.
Now the foundation is focusing on environmentally friendly mobility and the deal with Lexus is just the latest step.
With a 389 horsepower 5.0-liter V-8 matched to a 163 kW (221 horsepower) electric motor under its hood, delivering an EPA-rated fuel economy of 19/23 mpg city/highway, we’re sure the Prince could have found a more environmentally friendly mode of transport. But at least he’s showing some initiative, which is certainly good to see these days.
