Hybrid vehicle sales fell 50% last month compared to November of 2007 even though fewer hybrid models were available last year. Analysts blame the hybrid price premium, low gas prices and tighter credit markets. This November, 16,536 hybrids were sold.  In October 21,979 rolled off dealership lots.
Sales of the venerable Toyota Prius were down 48.3% from last November and Toyota’s other hybrid models fared worse. Toyota was still responsible for over half of the total hybrids sold, but they’re also the only major automaker with a dedicated hybrid model.
The Nissan Altima Hybrid was the biggest loser with sales falling 70% from last November. Being the biggest loser is only a good thing on reality TV weight loss competitions.
