When the Kia Soul EV electric car debuted just over a year ago, Kia planned a fairly cautious roll out.
The electric tall wagon would launch in California, and sales would expand to other states at an undetermined future point.
Then reality struck. It turned out that buyers really liked the idea of an all-electric tall wagon with 93 miles of range.

California sales were so robust that the Korean carmaker accelerated its rollout plans.
(The carmakers still refuses to say how many Soul EVs it sells each month, however–unlike every other established maker except Fiat.)
Kia executives said just a few weeks ago that the Soul EV would be available in other states before the end of 2015.

Now, we know exactly which states will be next to get the Soul EV, and when.
Kia will expand sales to Georgia, Texas, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii, with the Peach State getting the Soul EV first.
Georgia sales will start within the next couple of months, Kia says.

That state happens to be home to a Kia assembly plant that builds other, internal-combustion models, as well as 284 public charging stations.
Sales in the other four states will start by June.
As with California–where it’s currently available at just 17 dealers–the Soul EV won’t be offered everywhere within a given state.

Individual dealers will be certified to sell the car, and will be required to install charging stations on their properties for customers to use.
The final plan differs from previous discussions, in which New Jersey, New York, and Maryland were mentioned alongside Oregon.

Kia says it made the final cut based on perceived public interest in electric cars, and the extensiveness of charging infrastructure within each state.
In addition to the U.S., the Soul EV is also sold in Kia’s home market of Korea, where it is also built.
The company is reportedly looking at expanding sales to Europe as well.
