2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid
With the introduction of two new hybrids at the LA Auto Show, Ford has doubled their number of gas-electric hybrid models. And with the 2010 Fusion hybrid, Ford hopes to appeal to a young, city-living consumer.
Available at Ford dealerships late next year (with a yet-to-be-announced price tag), the Fusion hybrid can operate at almost 50 MPH is its pure electric mode, and can drive up to 700 city miles on one tank of gas. Under the hood, the Fusion hybrid boasts a new 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 155 horsepower. But perhaps the most unique feature of the Fusion hybrid is its interactive instrument cluster, called the SmartGauge with EcoGuide, designed to educate drivers on how to get the most bang for their hybrid buck. Of course, every driver is going to want to know real-time miles-per-gallon and battery and fuel levels, but Ford is also betting some drivers are going to want a more individualized experience, one they’re calling “Efficiency Leaves.” The MySpace and Tamagochi generations will adore Efficiency Leaves, which rewards them with virtual foliage on-screen for efficient driving.
