Recent reports indicated that Mitsubishi was working jointly with Peugeot-Citroen in an effort to develop the necessary components for a plug-in hybrid vehicle in the near future.  The report from the Nikkei newspaper in Japan indicated that the companies intended to jointly build all of the required powertrain components for a plug-in vehicle and would likely supply hybrid vehicles to each other after the completion of their efforts.
At the time, Mitsubishi declined to confirm the truthfulness of this joint venture.  Now, Peugeot-Citroen has come forward with a full denial of this report.  They have not worked jointly with Mitsubishi and have no intention of working with them for the development of a plug-in vehicle.
As Peugeot-Citroen stated, “We deny the information.  We have our own research into plug-in hybrids.”
Though they are not jointly working on a plug-in vehicle, the two companies continue their efforts on a joint program aimed at bringing a small EV to market in Europe in the next few years.
Mitsubishi is out, and Peugeot-Citroen will continue their efforts in the plug-in category without assistance from additional manufacturers.
