Memorandums of Understanding are popping up everywhere.  Referred to as a MoU, these agreements set forth the groundwork and lay out guidelines for adoption of electric vehicles.  Nissan is the king of the MoU as they appear to have signed one with virtually everyone, but Mitsubishi is not far behind.  Now Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada (MMSCAN) has signed on to.  The agreement was made between MMSCAN and Transport Canada.
Transport Canada is a division of the Canadian national government and is responsible for many aspects related to vehicles including transportation policies, programs, feasibility testing, and advanced technology vehicles.  Transport Canada will conduct feasibility testing of the 2010 i-MiEV at the 2010 Auto Show in Toronto.
The recent agreement between Mitsubishi and Transport Canada will go into affect immediately.  Under the terms, Mitsubishi will provide 2 i-MiEVs to Transport Canada for full evaluation.  The evaluation will be conducted through real-world use as the vehicles will be utilized for government fleet operations.
Mitsubishi holds other MoUs with providences and cities within Canada, but this marks their first agreement with the national government of Canada.

TOKYO, February 12, 2010 —
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced that subsidiary Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada (MMSCAN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Transport Canada, a part of the Canadian national government that is responsible for transportation policies and programs, for feasibility testing of the zero-emissions i-MiEV electric vehicle at the 2010 Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto, Canada, which will be open to the public from February 12-21. The agreement was signed on February 9.
Under the terms of the agreement, two i-MiEVs would be provided to Transport Canada’s fleet for demonstration and evaluation purposes. Transport Canada will test the i-MiEV in government facilities as well as in a variety of real-world conditions to evaluate the vehicles’ road handling, performance and range. Test results will also help to assess the potential environmental benefits of electric vehicle technologies in Canada.
“At Mitsubishi we are very pleased that Transport Canada has chosen to partner with us by helping to evaluate the i-MiEV in real world conditions. Currently, we have similar agreements with the City of Vancouver, the Government of British Columbia, power company BC Hydro, and power company Hydro-Quebec. But it is especially gratifying to have the support and encouragement of the Government of Canada. We all live in the same world, and it is to everyone’s benefit to help make a better environment for future generations; and projects like this is how we begin.” said Peter Renz, Director of National Marketing, MMSCAN.
