Progressive Prius drivers looking for the next step towards going green aren’t just moving into Nissan Leafs and Chevy Volts–Ford is benefitting too.
The company reports it expects November to be its best-ever month for hybrid sales, with over 6,000 units–beating July 2009’s high of 5,353 cars.
It’s partly thanks to the 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid, which sold well last month too–beating its closest rival, the Toyota Prius V, with 3,182 cars to 2,769.
November is also the first full month of Ford Fusion Hybrid sales, as well as the 2013 Ford C-Max Energi–Ford’s first plug-in hybrid challenger. Ford C-Max plug-in and hybrid sales are projected to reach 4,400 in November.
Importantly for Ford, many of the C-Max hybrid sales are conquest sales–vehicles sold to buyers previously loyal to another brand.
That figure is standing at 64 percent. Topping the list of competitive trade-ins is the Toyota Prius, while Honda’s non-hybrid CR-V is next up.
The sales success comes at a time where Ford is being watched closely over concerns those hybrids and plug-ins may not be meeting EPA numbers out on the street.
A similar, more serious fate recently befell Hyundai and Kia for reporting incorrect EPA economy figures.
Despite this, and despite no mention of the Focus Electric, Ford’s hybrids and plug-ins seem to be selling well–and the 2013 Fusion Energi is still to arrive.
