Of the 50 MINI Es that MINI USA is making available for fleet use testing, today New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced that ten of them will be prowling his streets, looking for graffitti, potholes, and other unsightly blemishes as part of the city’s Street Condition Observation Unit (SCOUT). Current SCOUT vehicles log approximately 100 miles per day. The MINIs are set to arrive in April, after the weather breaks. Perhaps another ten of the vehicles will be sent to Los Angeles, to test them in driving conditions that are quite different from those in New York.
The other 450 test MINI Es will be leased to regular consumers for one year. BMW plans to take feedback on real-world range, charging, and drive-ability to complete its development of the production-intent MINI E.
