Peugeot Launches iOn Electric City VehiclePeugeot Launches iOn Electric City Vehicle
Peugeot released their all electric iOn sedan city car yesterday, the first example of a vehicle built off of the i-MiEV platform. An additional Citreon model based off of the i-MiEV is expected soon.
The iOn, as the name suggests, is powered by lithium-ion batteries and will have an output of 64 hp and 133 lb ft or torque. Peugeot claims that the vehicle will be able to reach speeds of 81 mph and travel for distances up to 81 miles before recharging. An additional feature that will likely be of use to fleets is the local dispatch system which can communicate with the fleet and tell the vehicles whereabouts as well as other vital information.
The vehicle can be charged by a typical 220 volt outlet and can be fully charged in as little as six hours. With fast charging, the vehicle can be charged to 80 percent capacity in as little as 30 minutes.
Similar to the i-MiEV, the iOn will only initially be available to commercial and fleet customers. This first round of sales should start near the end of the 2010 calendar year.
Production of the iOn is scheduled to get under way next October, but those interested in seeing the vehicle in person will have their first chance at this years Frankfurt Motor Show starting next week.
There is now word yet regarding Citreon’s version of the i-MiEV, but the deal between the three companies has been finalized and Citreon will release their own version at a later date.
