Polestar 5 (2025): Taycan competitor completely without camouflage

There is no rear window…

The first Polestar Day in Los Angeles brought together all of the company’s models for the first time. You could get behind the wheel of the revised Polestar 2 and drive in the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 prototypes. The Polestar 6 concept was also on display. Today we would like to take care of the Polestar 5, as it was shown for the first time without any camouflage.

It’s safe to say this has been a long wait, considering the Porsche Taycan competitor was originally unveiled in February 2020 with the Precept Concept . In the almost four years that have passed since then, the Volvo subsidiary has only revealed camouflaged prototypes. This includes a veiled car that drove up the famous Goodwood Hill earlier this year. Now the lush make-up is finally gone.

The five-door electric hatchback, touted as the GT, will not have a rear window, but that shouldn’t be a big problem given today’s advanced rear-view cameras and the panoramic glass roof that extends far back. Still, the lack of a rear window might put some people off.

But it has a sleek, coupe-like roofline and a more practical tailgate than the Taycan. Compared to the concept, it lost the ultra-slim side cameras and suicide doors and got a B-pillar and smaller wheels.

The vehicle, manufactured in China, is said to benefit from StoreDot technology for extremely fast charging (XFC). It promises to charge the battery ( they are supposed to come from SK On ) in just five minutes to achieve a range of 160 kilometers. The first prototypes will be tested with the new technology in 2024, but it remains to be seen whether it will be available for production vehicles from day one. According to Polestar, the new model will not come onto the market until 2025.
