A recall has been issued for 2013 and 2014 Acura ILX Hybrid sedans–along with their gasoline counterparts–to fix a problem with their headlamps.
Under certain conditions, the headlamps may not provide enough heat dissipation, which can be compounded by engine heat and more-intense sunlight during summer driving.

If the headlamps do overheat, they can damage their reflector units. In extreme conditions, excessive heat may cause parts of the headlight units to emit smoke or even to melt.
2013 Acura ILX – HybridAcura dealers will replace both left and right headlamp units in the affected cars, free of charge.
The carmaker will send out letters to owners instructing them how to set up an appointment beginning in July 2014.
The repair is somewhat involved, requiring removal of the front bumper to gain access to the headlamp units. Owners may have to leave their cars at the dealer for a day or so.

The recall affects both 2013 and 2014 ILX Hybrid and non-hybrid models, although Acura did not say how many cars were involved, or what percentage were hybrids.
This comes shortly after Acura’s announcement that it would discontinue the hybrid model, leaving only the existing pair of four-cylinder gasoline engine options available for the 2015 model year.
Acura is managing this recall by Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), so owners can contact their dealers with their cars’ VIN to see if they are affected. They can also contact Acura at 800-382-2238.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) hasn’t issued a formal recall notice, but owners can also contact it at 888-327-4236 and reference Acura recall number 14-018.
