Nissan’s first electric vehicle to come to the states will make its premiere in the city of Seattle next year.
The plug-in electric from Nissan will be about the size of the Versa or the Sentra and seat five passengers. It will travel up to 100 miles on a single charge and be capable of moving at highway speeds. The vehicle can be recharged from a home outlet in 4 to 8 hours with a 220 volt circuit. Officially, the vehicle has not been released, so pictures shown of the Nissan EV-02 are not accurate as to design of the vehicle. However, the EV-02 does carry similar power train components to Nissan’s upcoming EV.
Seattle was chosen because the city and its residents are concerned about the environment more so than other areas of this nations. According to Mark Perry, director of product planning for Nissan North America, “The population of Seattle is at the forefront of really living its environmental ethos.”
Nissan is hoping that along with the help of the Seattle government they can promote the EV and create a network of charging stations for electric vehicles.
Initially, Nissan will sell the vehicle in Seattle, but will roll it out into 12 to 15 more markets next year.
It will take a group effort between Nissan and local governments to get charing systems in place to make EVs viable to more buyers and they hope to launch the successful program in Seattle first before expanding to other markets.
