The Guardian offers an interesting commentary on Electric Formula One racing cars.
The author argues that the combustion engine is dying. This is marked for example by Honda recently pulling out of future F1 competition.
He notes that combustion engines only can convert one third of their energy into locomotion, and electric motors are far more efficient. Also, electric motors are also more capable of producing extreme acceleration.
The author proposes a challenge that beginning in 2010 each Grand Prix should offer a separate special competition for electric racers. The winner would receive a $20 million prize contributed to by World governments.
This would help accelerate the effort to build such a car and advance the entire field of electric cars in general.
