Suzuki has officially announced that despite what many recent reports have stated, the Suzuki Kizashi is definitely bound for the U.S. by the end of the year. With Suzuki’s recent announcement of offering a midsize hybrid, this vehicle may be their only offering that fits the bill. For more info about Suzuki’s recent announcement click here.
Spokesman Jeff Holland said, “We are full speed ahead and it will be at dealerships by the end of the year.”
The vehicle has appeared in concept form now at several auto shows including a hatchback version at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2007 and a sedan version that premiered in New York last year.
Though all of the concept vehicles appeared with a 3.6 liter V6 engine, there is some indication that this vehicle could be the first midsize hybrid offering from Suzuki. The company has not confirmed which model will be its first hybrid offering, but has confirmed that it intends to build a midsize hybrid vehicle. The Kizashi fits the bill and replaces Suzuki’s other midsize the Verona. The Kizashi would be the only likely candidate at this point in their midsize offering to receive a hybrid powertrain.
Suzuki has struggled mightily as of late. Their overall U.S. sales have fallen over 60% percent since last year compared to the average decline of passenger cars at just over
35%. Suzuki needs vehicles that will bring buyer back.
Recently they announced plans to put additional funding into R&D of EVs, hybrids developed jointly with GM, and hybrids developed internally. The program has kicked off and Suzuki is desperately seeking entry into the alternative engine technology market.
