Top Gear ER-EV 2
Those mischievous blokes at Top Gear are at it again. When tasked with creating a Chevy Volt competitor, the hosts of the BBC’s auto-enthusiast program (Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond) put together the sight for sore eyes pictured here.
They call it the Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust. What started as a TVR Chimaera became an extended range electric vehicle in just 18 hours. Battery packs were placed at the rear of the car, accounting for its visibly uneven weight distribution. Green plastic garden chairs served to hold the occupants in place and a dual speaker radio provided the entertainment. Although driving this heap would be entertaining (if not death defying) enough.
To assess the Hammerhead’s road readiness, AutoCar conducted an independent test of the unsightly ER-EV. Needless to say, the results were not good. A video of the test, complete with footage of body panels scraping the pavement and a close call with the aforementioned radio is available here. The full article, which is definitely worth a look, is here.
